What is lactated ringer & why do we use it?

Lactated Ringer (LR) solution is an intravenous fluid

 used to replace fluids and electrolytes in patients. 

It is a clear, sterile solution that contains sodium chloride 

with small amounts of  potassium and calcium chloride.

LR is used to treat dehydration, restore blood volume, replace electrolytes lost through sweating, vomiting, or diarrhea, and increase pH levels. 

LR also has the same osmotic pressure as blood so that nutrients will flow easily into cells. We will always use 1000  mL bags because the goal is hydration!

With the approval of our Medical Director,

we have the ability to add anti-nausea and/or

anti-inflammatory meds to aid in pain management

and nausea for an additional small fee.

However, the migraine or hangover detox bag includes those medicines, which is reflected in the price and will be administered with medical oversight.

Our in-house RN specializes in minimizing IV discomfort by finding veins with a portable ultrasound so there's rarely more than one poke.

He also may use a small shot of lidocaine to further decrease any discomfort at the insertion site.

So, no need to worry if you're afraid of needles!
