The hair growth cycle occurs in three stages: active growth, rest and shedding. Each hair follicle on your body is on its own independent cycle, so only about 10-20% of your hair is in the growth cycle at any one time. This is the phase that is best to eliminate that hair follicle with laser treatment. 

Six treatments scheduled 4-6 weeks apart are the minimum recommended treatments for the best outcome, although many clients will require more with biannual or annual touch-ups. Each of us is truly individual so there are many factors to consider, including skin and hair color, the area of the body being treated and medications. 

• SHAVE. Shaving within 12-24 hours before your treatment will increase the successful of your treatment, but no no waxing or tweezing! When the laser is conducted on visible hair, much of the energy could be spent on eliminating the visible hair. For laser hair removal to work, there needs to be a hair follicle present! Do not wax, pluck or epilate in any way for up to 4 weeks before treatment. Unlike waxing, we do not need to see the outer growth of the hair to remove it.

• NO BEAUTY PRODUCTS!  Dry, natural skin is the best medium for the laser. No deodorants, perfumes, make-up or lotions on the treatment area before your appointment. Don't worry if you forget, we have make-up and baby wipes.

• NO RETINOIDS. Stop using any moisturizers with retinol one week before treatment. Retinoids can make your skin very sensitive to light, which may cause a burn. You can resume using those products 1-2 days after treatment. However, it is recommended to eliminate retinol during the course of your treatments.

• NO TANNING! For the best results, skin should be free of any imitation tanning methods, including sprays, lotions and tanning beds. The most successful treatments occur on natural skin in its lightest pigment! Always wear a high factor SPF. 

• MEDICATIONS. Always notify us of any medications you take or any major changes to your health, during the course of your treatments. We need to know of any uncontrolled diabetes, blood pressure or autoimmune disorder. However, the vast majority of medications will have no effect on the ability to receive treatment.

• GET CLEAN. After treatment you may want to shower, or wash the treatment area thoroughly. With our Elysion Pro diode laser, it is necessary to use ultrasound gel to conduct the energy and enable smooth delivery. We always wipe off extra gel, but it may be necessary to shower afterwards. 

• MOISTURIZE! Laser treatments may dry your skin or cause some irritation. Make sure to moisturize thoroughly and regularly, using your daily lotions and oils.

• NO EXTREME HEAT. Avoid extremely hot baths, showers, jacuzzis or steam rooms for at least 24 hours, and avoid direct sunlight for at least 2 days following treatment.

• EXFOLIATE. Exfoliate the area when any redness has subsided using a light body scrub 1 to 2 days after treatment if you are prone to ingrown hairs, although most of our clients do not have this issue with laser hair removal. After the laser targets the hair follicle, the follicle will shed. Sometimes, it gets trapped under the oldest, top layer of skin. Exfoliation will help reduce the occurrence of ingrown hair.

• SHAVE. Shave as much as you like. It is not possible to overemphasize that you must not pluck, tweeze or wax any hair on the area that was treated, before or after treatment. Tweezing can disrupt the treatment process and stimulate the hair follicle, leading to potential regrowth.
